History of NTPC Ltd
NTPC Ltd was incorporated on November 7, 1975 as a private limited company with the name National Thermal Power Corporation Pvt Ltd. On September 30, 1985 the company was converted from a private limited company into a public limited company. Subsequently, the name of the Company was changed to NTPC Limited and it reflected diversification of business operations beyond thermal power generation to include, generation of power from hydro, nuclear and renewable energy sources and undertaking coal mining and oil exploration activities. Today, NTPC is the largest power company in India with a power generating capacity of 62,110 MW.
